Bathroom shot: Jacob’s Pickles
Dinner with Jen & Mickelle (throwing in a courtesy link for Mkl even though she is lame and doesn’t use her tumblr.)Finally! A UWS restaurant I’ve been anticipating that didn’t disappoint. Cool interior, great food and a charming owner. I have a feeling it’s going to be in heavy rotation.
I seriously cannot get enough of this place.

Resurfacing from entertaining many houseguests, I had to share this bit of information. The upper west side has a new restaurant and I LOVE it. Jacob’s Pickles. They have only been open a couple weeks, so the service is still a little rocky, but the food is fantastic. The owner is a great and personable guy who genuinely goes out of his way for customer satisfaction. We sampled and shared a number of dishes at our table and we all were impressed with the quality of every dish.
My only concern is that everyone will realize how amazing this place is and it will be impossible to get a table soon. So I suppose I really should be telling everyone how terrible the place is instead… So in closing, DON’T go there and leave more biscuits for me!

We had the first official meeting of our pork group last night. After the New York magazine article came out with the 35 best pork dishes in New York, it was like the heavens opened, a light shown down and a voice commanded us to eat each and every one of them. And so we felt we must obey. It is a daunting task, but we are not faint of heart and are willing to take this challenge one morsel of lardo at a time until we each sprout our own curly tails.
We began at Fatty Cue. Heritage Pork Ribs, an order for each of us. We also ordered for the table ‘Cue Coriander Bacon, Dragon Pullman Toast (with a side of master fat), Celery Salad (something green on the table to make our mothers proud), Curried Black-eyed Peas, and Manila Clams. The food was delicious, the bacon thick cut, the curried black-eyed peas better than expected- so full of flavor- and the ribs good. Good, but list-worthy? We were collectively disappointed. However the flavor may have been hindered by the fact it took over half an hour to get our drinks, longer to place our order, and the seating setup was less than ideal. Half our table for four was against a wall, leaving us no choice but to shout at each other over the din of the restaurant. So my advice: go early, grab a seat at the bar and enjoy the food either by yourself or one friend. But I will probably be sticking to their city-sister, Fatty Crab. Less hassle and equally delicious food.
One down, thirty-four to go!
